[What's this? Silver is outside with his Pokemon and...not training?! You're not seeing things, this is totally the case. Quilava is happily rolling around in the grass, Sneasel's sharpening his claws on a rock and Golbat is looking for somewhere cool and shady to relax. Silver himself is just sitting there and watching them.

They're not gonna get stronger by playing and goofing off. Silver wants to be annoyed by this but he just...can't.]

[Silver blanches slightly. Considering Golbat's the only one he didn't steal...]

Well...I picked up Quilava at the lab in New Bark Town, when he was a Cyndaquil. [that's not a COMPLETE lie, right?] I caught Golbat in a cave, and Sneasel...kind of ran away from his old trainer.

[dogboy]

[He nods, approval clear in his voice.]

Must've been a bad trainer, then. Sneasel looks pretty happy now, so I'm guessing you're a pretty good one yourself. Or powerful, at least.

... [Sneasel does look happier lately, doesn't he? Silver had stolen him only because he felt Sneasel's former trainer was too weak to be worthy of him, but maybe he wasn't the best trainer regardless of that.]

Yeah. Definitely a bad trainer.

So why'd you take... Cyndaquil? I mean, its final form's got a lot of power, but why?

It's a fire-type. I thought fire would be the strongest.

[dogboy]

Well, you're wrong there! Flying's the best. [Bias aside. More incoming bias.] Ground's second-best though. And then it's Water.

[Silver would rather not think about Ground right now.]

Well, Flying's pretty good. But Dark is really the best.

I'd put that below Water, along with Fire and Ghost. Dark's one of the things I'm more familiar with from my world. Sneasel's part Dark, right? Ice too.

[In battle, his strengths are Fire, Dark, and Ground because he was Cerberus in a past life!]

Yeah, combination Ice and Dark type. ...unfortunately this makes him weak to fighting moves. [Stupid Lyra's Ampharos with its Brick Break.]

[Hm... Let Chien think about it a little. He uses this tactic himself in battle with others, though not exactly with Soren.] It looks pretty speedy, so maybe you can get around that by using the enemy's power against them? Like, they swing and since they've got to go through with it, he can get in a powerful attack while they're open and stuff.

That's what I usually do. If the other Pokemon's bigger and slower Sneasel can outrun it...and I think he can also learn Counter.

[dogboy]

That's pretty useful. [Well, if it's like he thinks it does.] Fighting'll be no problem for him as long as you train him against that sort of type.

[He and Soren are training against Electricity themselves.]

I know there's berries you can give them to weaken super-effective types...

Really?! [Oooh you got his attention now.] What kinds? Do you know? Do you have any?

I might have some at home. Some girl gave me a bunch of them before I left, said her Mom gave her too many. They have weird names and if Pokemon hold them, they weaken the effect of moves that'd normally do a lot of damage.

[dogboy]

[So cool. Especially since there wasn't anything like that back in his world.] How far's it? I want to see.

It's a bit of a walk from here.

Why walk when we can fly?

You sure there's enough room for us both on Swellow?

Definitely not on, but if you don't mind talons Soren'll carry you down below. He's a really strong bird so don't worry about being dropped.

...I can handle talons! [he's actually not sure about that but like hell he's gonna seem weak or nervous in front of the kid]

[Damn straight he better not. The other you is someone he respects a good deal and it'd be awful to have it tarnished!]

Alright then, get everything together and I'll tell Soren. [He stands, walks a few feet away and gives a whistle at the Swellow, who mimics him note to note and stops playing with Quilava long enough to fly over so Chien can give him an update.]

[Silver quickly recalls his own Pokemon and gathers his pack in the meantime]

[As soon as he's done, Chien mounts the bird like they've practiced since they got back from the draft and lifts up from the ground until they're about at Silver's head, talons open.]

Just put your hands in his talons and we'll be off. You'll have to direct him yourself.

[This sounds so safe.]

...hang on. [takes out a pair of gloves and shoves his hands into them before doing as Chien says] ...okay. Um... [and he gives the directions to his and Jeb's place]
