[Now that he's not training his Pokemon to exhaustion, Silver's in the market for some new hobbies. A guy's gotta have more to do than waiting for his team to wanna train, after all! So he's walking around town, looking at a list he made: reading, possibly taking art lessons from Jeb, learning to cook (only if absolutely desperate). Yeah, it's pretty small...maybe he should've asked around for some ideas.

Oh, well. Maybe he'll get some from walking around. He's in a fairly good mood today, so if anyone approached they might get actual conversation!]

And anyone can do that? [Because well... if she had to pick a new hobby... something with training animals didn't sound too bad. And if they were going to factor into whatever her brain was doing to her, she might get some ideas.]

And do these pokemon live here near the village?

[Come to think of it, aside from the fact she can apparently understand them 'talking', she hasn't seen weirdness among Luceti's animal population.]

And here I was hoping you'd guide me to my second hobby. [Second? She has a first?]

What did you have in mind?

Experience suggests books are your better bet.

[Silver does not need to be a jock.]

Although the idea of you crushing pop cans against your skull might be worth selling tickets.

[She's not particularly sorry.

Let's see. Books about animals, since he likes pokémon...]

There's a book about a very important sporting event. It's by a guy called Ernest Hemingway.

[She means 'Death in the Afternoon', about bullfighting. She isn't sorry for that, either.]

[Silver actually might like the book; it's a fairly positive portrayal of the sport and the history and ritual behind it, much like the rituals and meaning that have grown up around battling. Though he may be disturbed at its inevitable end. Pokémon aren't usually killed. Or battling humans.]

Mountain climbing? Not really my thing. None are coming to mind.

He wrote "The Old Man and the Sea".

[This is a much more sincere recommendation:]

It's about an old fisherman trying to catch a great, huge, fish.

[Might not sound so great in those words, but well, what trainer isn't looking for the best, strongest, and rarest, too?]

It'll still be there when you're bored enough to try it.

Not exactly. It's interesting, and well-written. He's a great author. But underappreciated.

That list might take awhile.

If I limit it to authors you might like...

[Let's see, sports and adventure, with a side of animals loyal to their trainer and a dash of survival?]

Jack London.

[Daria, on the other hand, for once feels right at home.]

He was pretty prolific. But his famous ones were Call of the Wild, and White Fang.

They're pretty tough, alright. They're both survival stories up in the Yukon. They're about sled dogs, and a part-wild wolf that becomes one.

[They're pretty grim as a result, but Silver might not mind that.]

I wouldn't know, but it sounds like it might be. It's pretty far north, so it's frozen or under snow pretty much all the time.
