[It's a nice day, isn't it? The kind of day to just sit outside and enjoy it, crazy as that seems. Yet Silver's sitting on the steps of the library, reading a Jack London book, Quilava chilling beside him.

It's still weird, spending days not training or trying to be stronger than everyone. So far taking Sundays off seems to be working, letting his team rest but not letting them get lazy...maybe Saturdays, too?

Yeah, maybe. He'd have to see about that.]

Granted, this place seems to work more by Murphy's Law. But so does the real world.

[Belatedly, she realizes he may not get that reference either:]

Mostly as a joke, but it can sure seem real sometimes.

[She's kind of been there, too. Though she's learning her scale of 'really bad day' doesn't quite match up with Luceti's version.]

You kinda get used to it being a Pokemon trainer, at least.

I guess it's a bit dangerous training any type of animal. Especially if they start out wild. Most people I know would say you can't fully train a wild animal. At least, they wouldn't recommend assuming your full-grown tiger is going to act like a kitten.

Sometimes they do. [snort] I've seen huge Pokemon act like frisky little critters if their trainers are sappy enough.

I assure you there's no sap in these old bones. I should probably stay away from the wild.

[laughs] Hah, sap. Wild. Tree. I think I get it! [at least he THINKS it was a joke. Silver's not too good with the whole humor thing]

It's different if you're used to it, I guess.

Do you have special clothes you wear when you work with the animals, like gloves and things?

Some people wear gloves or really old clothes, or strong fabric that'll hold up against fire or electricity burns. But not always. For example, this little kid who challenged me once wore shorts and a tank top. It was winter!

It would seem a basic lack of common sense is the same everywhere. [She almost says 'in any world', but she's not quite ready for that even now.]

Hah, you've got that right. [Not that you're too big on common sense either, Silver. Better than you used to be, but still.]

On the brighter side, the people like that will weed themselves out and leave more for us.

Not gonna lie, I've felt like that plenty of times before.

You might say it's natural.

[Natural selection, OK so her jokes aren't exactly funny, and tend to slip right by without much notice.]

Heh, yeah. I think that's what the book believes, too, least that's what I'm getting from the wolves' thoughts and all.

London lived a pretty wild life himself for awhile. He went out to California during the gold rush, for one.

California? Where's that? [There is no such place in Johto, that's for sure.]

When you get to America, keep going west. When you hit the ocean, you've gone too far.

I might regret asking it, since I'm pretty sure the answer won't be somewhere I know, but where's this place you're from?

It's... [how to explain it] Well, it's our world's analogue to the Kansai region of your planet's Japan.
